AITEMIN is a Technological Centre of a private and non-profit nature, which activity is mainly carried out in the sectors of extractive industry, construction and environment. Its activities include carrying out research and technological development projects as well as providing technological services to companies, organizations and government agencies.

- Lead and coordination of multinational partnerships and multidisciplinary teams that included industrial companies such as PUTZMEISTER, RAG, SIKA, research centres and universities for innovation projects.
- Consultancy and technological assessment for the automation of processes for the underground industry (e.g. civil construction and coal mining).
- New product development of:
- Robotized heavy duty machinery and automatic control systems for the automation of different tunnelling processes (e.g. shotcrete machine, roadheading machine, tunnelling machinery, etc.).
- Advance, high precision and reasonable low cost mechatronic devices for hostile environments (e.g. LIDAR Scanner, Laser-based multi object detection scanner).
- Embedded SW/HW for motion control (e.g. DC motors, hydraulic/pneumatic actuators, etc.), DAQ (encoders, analog, etc.) and telecommunication (Ethernet/Wifi, CANOpen, RS-485, etc.).
- ICT (Information and Communication Technology) based real-time teleoperation systems for Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) and process supervision.
